Frequently Asked Questions:

Where do I start?
Start with the Wooden railway starter train sets. These are value packed sets. The Figure eight set is a wonderful way to start and only $39.99.

Will it work with Brio and other Wooden Railway systems?
Yes. It is compatible with Brio. Many people who have Brio tracks will add Thomas Engines to their set up. It is compatible with many other wooden railway systems as well.

I have the Old Thomas Wooden Railway Clickity Clack Track. Will it work with the new 2002 track?
Yes. It is completely compatible.

Will the new (new 2002) roadways work with the Railway track?
Yes. The pieces fit together and the trains and/or vehicles all will run on either the road or rail.

I started with the Die-cast Metal Thomas collection. Is the Wooden Railway system compatible?
No. The Take Along Thomas Metal Engines and the older Ertl die-cast engines are a bit smaller and do not fit on the wooden railway tracks well.

Should I glue or nail my track down to a board or something?
I wouldn't recommend it but some people do. You will see it set up this way in retail stores simply to keep it all together (especially when lots of kids use it daily). However, part of the fun (and learning) for the kids is laying out the tracks in new and different ways. When they are younger (2 yrs old), they might (or might not) enjoy you putting the track up so they can run the engines on them. As they get older they have as much or more fun building their own layouts. For a solution we have a special track clip called Sure Track. This clip keeps the track pieces together, but will also easily remove.

What are the age recommendations?
Age recommendations for most of the wooden railway system is 2 years and up. For 2 year olds I would stay away from elevated track and risers and any of the more complex pieces. The 2 year olds find the elevated track frustrating and enjoy the flat tracks better. Also, for two year olds you may want to start with smaller to mid-size sets so you do not overwhelm them. It is fun for them to get new add on pieces (one at a time) for special occassions. Young children will understand and appreciate adding to the set slowly rather than buying everything all at once.
